Cliff Lake is at the bottom of the image above. Middle Lake is in the center, and Grass Lake at the top. North Lake (barely visible) is above and to the left of Middle Lake. On Friday, we’ll be hiking to a point below the bottom right corner of Grass Lake and just above the top right corner of Middle Lake.
Seven Lakes Basin
June 24-26, 2016
This year’s 3-day expedition is into the Seven Lakes Basin at the north end of the Sky Lakes Wilderness. From the trailhead at an elevation of 5,480 feet, the Sevenmile Trail crosses Sevenmile Creek and gradually climbs the gentle slopes along the northwest edge of Sevenmile Marsh. The trail winds in and out of lodgepole/ponderosa pine stands and flowered meadows before intersecting with the Pacific Crest Trail, which we’ll follow south to the Seven Lake Trail. Just past the 5-mile mark, we’ll come to the intersection between Grass Lake and Middle Lake.
Students who want to go must register online by the Monday prior to the trip in order to reserve a spot. We generally have room on the trip for up to 16 high school students. The cost is $75. Check the packing list and make sure to complete the medical release.
Thursday, June 23 — Meet at the Youth Center (200 S College) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Bring everything you plan to take on the trip. We will check packs, distribute food and tents, and finalize what is and isn’t going. Dinner provided.
Friday, June 24 — Leave the church at 6 a.m. Arrive at the trailhead around noon, enjoy lunch, and hike just over 5 miles to the basin before deciding where to set up our campsite.
Saturday, June 25 — After a leisurely breakfast, options will include a variety of day hikes.
Sunday, June 26 — We clean up camp and head back to the trailhead. We plan to be back to the church by 8 p.m.
