Joining International Teams in Nicaragua for Two Years
I was born and raised in Newberg. While attending Newberg High School, I began looking for a career that would be connected with algebra, which led me to business and finance. I felt the Lord leading me to find ways for missionaries to be financially independent. George Fox University (GFU) has a great business program, with strong ethics, so I applied, attended, then graduated from GFU this past April.
At GFU, I felt surrounded by familiar people, some Quaker scholars, I’d grown up knowing because of my connections at NFC and NWYM. During the spring term of my senior year, I attended the missions fair, where I met two International Teams (ITeams) representatives, Stephen and Natalie Goff. ITeams is an interdenominational nonprofit organization that strives to meet everyone’s three basic needs: food, freedom, forgiveness. When I told Stephen I was a global business major, he got excited and started telling me about his and Natalie’s call to serve the people of Masatepe, Nicaragua. I aligned with what they were telling me about the team leaders in Masatepe, who want as little dependence as possible and want to leave their operations in the hands of the Nicaraguans at some point in the future.
I felt the Lord calling me to be a part of this team and began the application process through ITeams. I have been accepted as a part of their organization and have already attended their orientation. I have made a two-year commitment to ITeams. Beginning October 21, I will spend a week in Masatepe, discerning if this is where the Lord is leading me. Unless I sense a different leading, I will return to Oregon to continue to seek support.
May I suggest a few ways you can support me? 1) I need to form a team to pray for the conversations I will have with potential donors who will fund my ministry’s account and then will pray while I serve in Masatepe, Nicaragua. 2) I would like people to pray encouragement over me, to pray I will be comfortable with inviting donors to be a part of my team.
If you want to be a part of my prayer team please email me. If you’d rather call, my number is 503-487-7158. And you could visit my blogsite to follow my journey with ITeams in Masatepe, Nicaragua. Feel free to contact me using any of the above methods. My current full-time job is finding and meeting with donors, so my days are open to schedule a meeting in person if you would like.
